Little Death Poems
Little Death Poems is a my poetical diary from 2020-2022. While the title is a stab at levity, many of the poems do deal directly with death, loss, and transformation. Organized into 3 parts, it chronicles my divorce, my struggles with a chronic illness, falling in and out of love, and the death of my mother, all against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic. The collection is grounded in the rich and sensual landscapes (both physical and emotional) that I inhabited during a 3-year period. Each part is introduced with an essay written in the corresponding year, and the narrative weaves in and out of linearity like a spiral, using memories and recurring seasonal phenomena as waypoints. Both deadly serious and lighthearted, I explore mundane moments with gravity and approach difficult topics with playfulness as a means of catharsis.
77 pages, containing 44 poems and 3 essays.
